General Resources

The below organizations are some of the key agencies informing School Counseling practices at the state and national level. See their websites for more information: 

Academic Resources

  • Khan Academy - the Khan Academy provides videos and lesson plans to support students in a variety of content areas; they also provide test prep and are the official partner for College Board's SAT test prep. Students should register for support with the SAT College Entrance Exam.
  • Teaching Tolerance - Teaching Tolerance is a non-profit that provides a free magazine and other resources for educators on a variety of relevant topics surrounding diversity, inclusion, social justice, and more. Subscribe today to receive their news, learn about webinars, and more!
  • edWeb - edWeb provides a large professional community as well as a comprehensive database of webinars and support directed to educators. 

Social/Emotional Resources

  • Teen Lifeline - Teen Lifeline is a nonprofit organization that operates a teen hotline and provides support to prevent teen suicide in Arizona. Contact them for business cards with their hotline information. Educator resources to come.
  • Trevor Project - the Trevor Project provides a hotline for vulnerable teens and free training for professionals. They also released a model school district policy on suicide prevention in collaboration with ASCA in order to help professionals discuss LGBTQ-competent suicide prevention.
  • American Counseling Association (ACA) - the American Counseling Association provides free training and publications to its members, as well as current research in the counseling field. 
  • American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) - the American Mental Health Counselors Association provides free training and resources to its members, as well as current research in mental health counseling. 
  • National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) - the NIMH is a federal agency that researches mental disorders and provides information and resources. Download or order their fact sheets/brochures for upcoming events and workshops. 
  • SAMHSA - the national Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has a comprehensive website with data, publications, and practitioner training resources. See more online for your professional development needs.
  • Mentalhealth.gov - this governmental website provides resources and education on a variety of topics. There are also listings of local experts and support if needed.
  • CDC's Mental Health Page - the CDC provides relevant data/publications, resources, a quiz and more in support of mental health across our nation. 
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - NAMI is a national organization providing education on mental illness. See this listing of local chapters for training, resources, and more. Consider joining your local chapter as well!

  • SEL- Social Emotional Learning - The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is one of the top organizations in SEL curriculum and support. See their website for an implementation toolkit, free webinars, and an online exchange for professionals.
  • Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition - the Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition provides information about suicide and an annual conference for professionals.
  • TAP Online Trainings - The Training and Access Project (TAP) is an initiative within Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships (BCHNP) that offers high quality professional development and consultation services - see their website for available FREE Online Trainings.
  • New Song Center for Grieving Children -  (a program of Hospice of the Valley), provides comprehensive grief support for children, teens, young adults and their caregivers following a significant death loss. We also provide grief education for families, schools, community groups, clergy, medical and mental health professionals.  Call 480-951-8985.
  • Tu Nidito - 'Little Nest' is a safe place where children, teens and adults find comfort, hope and support when grieving the diagnosis of a serious medical condition or the death of a loved one. They are currently providing services online during COVID 19.

College & Career Resources

  • National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) -  NACAC's website, professional development, college fairs and other events provide counseling and admission professionals with expert advice and tools regarding the college transition.

  • Rocky Mountain Association of College Admission Counseling (RMACAC)  - RMACAC is the regional affiliate of NACAC and provides professional development opportunities including Roadmap events and an Annual Conference.
  • College Success Arizona - College Success Arizona & its community AzCAN is dedicated to postsecondary success for all Arizona students. Join the community for free, and review their resources and professional development listings!
  • AZTransfer - AZTransfer is a free site that shows Arizona students how their dual enrollment courses, AP/IB/CLEP exam scores, and community college courses transfer to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona. They regularly hold regional trainings for counselors to support students in college planning.
  • College Board - the College Board is the national organization behind the PSAT, SAT, AP programs and more. They provide FREE professional learning, handouts and resources, and other opportunities for counselors. 
  • ACT - The ACT is a national college entrance exam for high school students. The ACT organization also provides a newsletter for professionals, regular professional development, and other resources/ebooks. Be sure to sign up for their news online.
  • SAT - The SAT is a national college entrance exam for high school students provided by the College Board. The College Board also provides a regular newsletter, professional development, and other support for K-12 educators. See more at https://counselors.collegeboard.org/.
  • FastWeb - The FastWeb is one of the most popular scholarship search engines, provides free marketing materials for educators, and is a valuable resource to reference when advising students.
  • Sallie Mae - Sallie Mae is one of the largest national lenders for college student loans, and their website also contains a wealth of college planning tools and information. 
  • TREC (Tucson Regional Educators Collaborative) - regional collaborative with goals to support the Professional Development of the region’s teachers. See the website for webinars and other upcoming opportunities.
  • ACTEAZ
  • MyFutureAZ - The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) announced it is launching My Future AZ, a new FREE career exploration and planning platform, for students across the state. My Future AZ utilizes proven technology and infrastructure from Pipeline AZ, an Arizona career development and job skills exploration platform, to offer students comprehensive resources and support to plan for their future careers.
