AzSCA is looking for professional, dedicated, and enthusiastic school counselors to serve on our Board of Directors. AzSCA's Mission

The Arizona School Counselors Association promotes our profession, supports school counselors through resources and professional networking, and through demonstrating our ethical practices, professional partnerships with parents, staff and community while developing evidence based national model implementation in all schools, and to assist/ support students in their academic experiences, college/ career preparation, and social/ emotional development.

Board of Directors Qualifications

A qualified candidate for the AzSCA Board of Directors must:
  • Hold a current Arizona school counselor certificate
  • Be a current member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • Be a current member of the Arizona School Counselors Association (AzSCA)
  • Be in good standing with Arizona Department of Education
  • Be in good standing with their employer
  • Be in good standing with the school counseling profession.

Eligibility

To be eligible to run for a Board position, the individual:
  • Must be a current member of AzSCA as of December 1, 2023.
  • Must be a current member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) as of December 1, 2023.
  • Must be a Certified School Counselor working in a K-12 setting in the state of Arizona as of December 1, 2021.
  • Must be in good standing with the Arizona Department of Education, their employer, and with the school counseling profession.
  • Must have completed a school counseling internship with a certified school counselor.
  • In addition to the above, the individual can also be an administrator for a school counseling department or a school counselor who has retired after December 1, 2021.

Responsibilities

  • Voting member
  • Determine the budget for the upcoming year (July-June).
  • Follow the AzSCA Code of Ethics
  • Serve as a liaison to a committee by communicating with the committee chair and reporting back to the Board of Directors
  • Review, develop, and revise policy and procedure

Time Commitment

Term
  • Individuals elected to the Board of Directors serve a three-year term.
  • Elected members may run for an additional three-year term.

Activities/Commitments
Members of the Board of Directors are required to:
  • Attend quarterly meetings in person. The Board of Directors meets on Friday night from 4pm-9pm and then again with the Board at Large on Saturday from 8am to 12pm. Quarterly meetings are held in August, November, January, and April.
  • Attend the Leadership Development Institute. LDI occurs in June and is typically 2-3 days.
  • Monthly Board of Directors Zoom Meetings. These one-hour meetings occur outside school hours.
  • Direct advocacy and government relations efforts of the association.
  • Serve on the Professional Recognition Committee, reviewing candidates for recognition.
  • Attend the Annual AzSCA Conference. Our Annual Conference is 2-3 days, usually in February.
  • Participate in other special events coordinated by AzSCA.
  • Zoom with Legislative Consultants during the Legislative session (January through May).

How to Apply

Applications are accepted online beginning December 1, 2023. The deadline to apply is January 22, 2024. Application information includes:

  • Position statements
  • Summary of your education and certifications.
  • Summary of professional experience
  • A description of the applicant's leadership experience, including a listing of professional memberships

The application also requires the following documents to be uploaded:
  • Resume / CV
  • A professional photo / headshot
  • Self Attestation Form
  • Commitment to Performance Form
  • Letter of recommendation from direct administrative supervisor who has formal performance evaluative authority over the candidate (ex: building administrator), which includes a statement that the candidate is in good standing.

Elections / Voting

Voting information will be communicated to AzSCA members beginning in February 2024. Elections are handled electronically using Election Runner. Voting will open at the AzSCA Conference Membership Meeting on February 6, 2024. Voting will close February 13, 2024. Elected board members will be expected to begin serving in June 2024.
