2010 Secondary School Counselor of the Year
Kat is a tireless worker and advocate for students at Flagstaff High School. Kat coordinates a regional college fair in the fall which serves all of northern Arizona. She has been a driving force in unifying the counselors at all three of Flagstaff’s high schools to provide transition services to students entering and exiting high school. Her efforts in implementation of the ASCA National Model have led to her participation in the RAMP study group for Flagstaff High School. She has been at the forefront of initiatives such as ECAP and has helped Flagstaff School District organize into counselor workgroups to better serve all FUSD students.
While Kat serves our state counseling organization as AzSCA Secondary Vice President and as President Elect of the Arizona High School and College Relations Council (AZHSCRC), she has also taken a leadership position in her community. Kat serves as President of the Master Chorale, coordinating events such as Sing for the Cure to raise awareness of breast cancer through a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society. She serves on the community board for the YMCA and other organizations and is typically the "go to" person in the Flagstaff School District to speak as an advocate of school counseling in community gatherings.
Flagstaff School District is moving toward the ASCA National Model due to Kat Pastor's leadership, initiative and willingness to serve. In short, Kat Pastor is the "sparkplug" for the Flagstaff Unified School District school counselors.
